Doula

A Doula (pronounced "doola") is a Greek word meaning "woman servant or caregiver". A doula is a trained labour support person. She provides physical and emotional support to a mom and dad during the labour and birth. For centuries women have been helping labouring mothers and have proven that support from another woman has a powerful and positive impact on the labour process. A doula believes in “mothering the mother” - enabling a woman to have the most satisfying and empowered time that she can during pregnancy, birth and the early days as a new mum. This type of support also helps the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience. She also provides emotional and practical support after the birth (postpartum).

We help you with the following:
•Pre and post natal advice and care.
•Prepare your birth plan, in order for you to get the birth you want!
•Assistance during birth with your breathing and pain management.
•Different birth positions, to ensure that you do not tear and to ensure that you have a speedy birth.
•Your voice when you are in labour.
•Assistance with breastfeeding.

Although a Doula is not a medical professional, we are trained in many non-medical pain relief methods and understand the physiology of birth.

“ To me, being a doula isn’t a job. It’s something that comes from within. A passion... a fascination... a joy... I believe that every woman’s experience during pregnancy and birth should be a positive and beautiful one. Labour and birth should be something natural, yet they are quickly becoming so mechanical and surgical. Women are making life-altering decisions because they are forced into it. My goal is to guide women into making educated decisions..”
